THE United Kingdom has showered praise on the Fifth Phase Government under President John Magufuli for its efforts in strengthening revenue collections,

Through the UK High Commissioner to Tanzania, Ms Dianne Melrose, Prime Minister David Cameron said the move by the present phase of Tanzanian government on ‘walking the talk’ with regard to the above mentioned matters was worth emulating. “Premier Cameron has been impressed by the good work of the current government.He has expressed the commitment of the UK government in strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries in various areas of development,” the envoy told Dr Magufuli at the State House in Dar es Salaam.
The UK envoy had had a meeting with President Magufuli yesterday. Earlier, the Head of State held separate meetings with the South African High Commissioner Thamsanqa Mseleku and Ambassador of Egypt to Tanzania, Mr Mohamed Yasser El Shawaf.
President Magufuli ensured the envoys that his government will continue cementing the close bilateral ties with their countries, particularly in boosting business and investments for the benefit of the people of the respective countries.
In another development, Dr Magufuli received yesterday credential letters from two envoys who have been posted to Tanzania. They include Ambassador Jean Pierre Mutamba Tshampanga from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Ambassador Theresia Samaria from the Republic of Namibia.
After receiving their credentials, the president guaranteed to the envoys that Tanzania will carry on with its long-term relations in enhancing economies of the respective countries which are member states of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Last on the president’s timetable yesterday was a meeting with former President Jakaya Kikwete at the State House.
Meanwhile, Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has received with great joy the results of the just-concluded general election in Uganda in which President Yoweri Museveni of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) won with 60 per cent.
“As a sister country, we have been following the entire process with keen interest and we were confident that the National Resistance Movement, under the leadership of Yoweri Museveni would emerge triumphant.
It, therefore, gives us great pleasure to congratulate President-elect Museveni and our brothers and sisters of the NRM on this resounding victory,” the CCM Director of Communications, Mr Daniel Chongolo, said in a statement.
He added: “Chama cha Mapinduzi and NRM have deep historic and fraternal relations, having gone through a similar process.
We are confident that the excellent relations that our two parties enjoy will be further strengthened in our common bid to meet the aspirations of our people”.
